Meet Brittany, BCBA at Behavior Interventions
- Why did you choose this career path?I was introduced to ABA through an internship during my undergraduate experience. It was amazing to see the positive changes you could make in others using the science of behavior analysis. I immediately knew I wanted to pursue a career in this field to be a part of the differences you could make in the lives of individuals with Autism and other disabilities lives as well as their families.
- What’s your favorite part about your BCBA job? My favorite part of the job is that every day or even just session to session can be very different and filled with new learning opportunities for myself due to the variety of clients we serve. I, of course, love to see the progress clients and families make. It’s always heartwarming to hear from a parent that they were able to take their child to a birthday party or other community event and be blown away by the progress their child is making socially through our work.
- How do you collaborate with other members of the Behavior Interventions team? I have the pleasure of working at the Early Intervention program at BII’s Horsham Office! This allows me to be surrounded by other BCBAs, RBTs, program specialists, and program directors daily. Everyone is always willing to lend a hand or be available for consultation to run ideas by each other in order to incorporate into our clients’ programming. In addition, being a part of the EIBI program, allows me to work closely with my fellow BCBAs to continue to provide improvements and expansions to the early intervention program to provide our clients with new learning opportunities and skills that they can take with them as they transition to Kindergarten.
- How does your job make a lasting impact on the lives of the children you work with and their families? I can feel the impact when a parent reports a stress free trip to one of their child’s appointments, such as getting a hair cut or dentist appointment. Also, I see the lasting change in my clients when they are able to independently implement the adaptive behaviors and coping skills taught to them to help regulate their emotions and communicate their wants and needs. In these scenarios, I see how the strategies and skills we have taught these families and clients are valuable to their lives in many ways.
- For anyone considering becoming a BCBA, what advice do you have for them? I would advise them to dive deep into the supervision process while gaining their experience hours. It is so important to be immersed into as many avenues of ABA as possible as well as clientele. The opportunities they have during that time are very valuable and crucial to their development of becoming a well-rounded BCBA.
