BCBA Job

Meet Santina Marinelli, BCBA at Behavior Interventions

  1. Why did you choose this career path? When I was introduced to the ABA field, I was intrigued by the evidence-based science behind the strategies used to make socially significant changes for children with autism and other disabilities. I knew I wanted to expand my knowledge and skill set so I decided to work toward the BCBA role
  1. What’s your favorite part about this job? I love working with such a variety of children and families. Every individual is different in many ways, each with their unique challenges and strengths. I feel like I am always learning something new from my clients! I love that I get the opportunity to see families make progress because of our (and their) hard work. It is both a challenging and rewarding job!
  1. How do you collaborate with other members of the Behavior Interventions team? I often collaborate with other BCBAs, supervisors, and clinical support teams through discussions of strategies, case specifics, and logistics to meet the needs of my clients. I also collaborate with the Behavior Therapists and Registered Behavior Therapists who work each day with my clients. If a goal isn’t progressing, for example, they often have valuable input about that child’s individual preferences or motivation that I can use to problem-solve a solution.
  1. How does your job make a lasting impact on the lives of the children you work with and their families? When I see a parent/caregiver invested in their child’s program and gain confidence in using strategies successfully with their child, that tells me my job is already making a lasting impact. In those moments I feel we are making a socially significant change and improving the family’s quality of life because they are learning valuable tools to support their child’s needs in the long run.
  1. For anyone considering becoming a BCBA, what advice do you have for them? Consider what you want to ultimately gain from your coursework and training. The supervision experience is such a valuable one, so don’t be afraid to seek out good mentors, ask questions, and work with a variety of clients. It’s well worth it!
